Introduction to Systems Thinking

Description

Systems thinking provides a practical method for solving and managing complex issues by looking at the “big picture.” By looking at the big picture, we are able to understand how the decisions we are making to resolve an issue will impact the organization as a whole over the long term. Through systems thinking, we don’t look at issues independently, but rather from an organizational perspective. Systems thinking enables us to look at issues taking into account organizational culture, people, policies, processes, technology and the history of the organization.

By understanding how to take a systems approach to resolving complex problems that arise, we can arrive at better solutions, ensuring that the solutions developed have the right impact within the organization and don’t introduce undesirable results or additional issues.  Systems thinking allows for a more proactive approach to problem solving.
